Denver Man Donates Motorhome to California Fire Victims

From his home in Denver, James Faircloth watched all the videos of the Camp Fire destroying neighborhoods in Northern California. He knew that writing a social media post about thoughts and prayers for those affected was a nice idea, but it wouldn’t help the victims.

The father of four spent Thanksgiving driving from Denver to Chico, Calif., in a motorhome filled with items to donate, including the actual vehicle, and his young daughter joined him.

According to an article on the Fox News affiliate in Denver’s website, Faircloth set up a GoFundMe account on Saturday, Nov. 17, seeking donations to help pay for a motorhome that he would drive to California and give to a family in need. He said the money would also help pay for donations for him to give out in California. Faircloth hoped to give the motorhome to a first responder whose home was lost in the blaze.

He picked up the motorhome on Wednesday, Nov. 21 from a man who reportedly sold it to him for about a third of the price because he wanted to support the cause. On Thursday morning, Faircloth, who had started the journey to California, called the TV station with more good news. Another person wanted to donate a second motorhome.

A woman reached out to him saying she wanted to donate a motorhome. It just needed new tires. A California RV park has also stepped up, donating free spaces for both of the RVs so the families can stay in the park.

Faircloth and his daughter were planning arrive in California early Friday morning, he said. High winds and snow forced them to make a detour, adding four hours to the drive.

You can follow Faircloth’s journey on his Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. He asked for the public’s help recommending two families to give the RVs to, and invited anybody with an idea to email it to RV4campfirefamily@gmail.com with as many details as possible.
